Research Overview
Bacteriostatic Water (BAC Water) is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. It is the standard solvent used for reconstituting lyophilized peptides in laboratory research settings. The benzyl alcohol prevents bacterial contamination, allowing multi-use access from a single vial over an extended period.
Mechanism of Action
Benzyl alcohol acts as a bacteriostatic agent by disrupting bacterial cell membrane integrity, preventing microbial growth without fully sterilizing the solution. This preservative action allows the reconstituted solution to remain viable for multiple withdrawals over approximately 28–30 days when stored at proper temperature.
Experimental Applications
Used as a reconstitution solvent for lyophilized peptides, proteins, and other research compounds. Essential for preparing injectable research solutions in preclinical studies. Also used as a diluent for serial dilutions in concentration-dependent assays.

Reconstitution Guidelines
Ready to use. No reconstitution required. Use aseptic technique when withdrawing from the vial. Swab the rubber stopper with an alcohol prep pad before each use. Discard 28 days after first puncture.
